aura safari: hotel mediterraneo EP

See this content in the original post

Back in 2019 we were amazed by the eponymous LP from the Italian collective Aura Safari. This acclaimed release, via Church, cemented their position at the forefront of a new Italo fusion that blends jazz-funk, electronic and world sounds, and now they present a new EP entitled Hotel Mediterraneo. Released by Hell Yeah Recordings, this 5-tracker contains dreamy soundscapes that materialize the influences guiding Nicholas Iammatteo, Alessandro Deledda, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Andrea Moretti into new jazz-spirited explorations.

Hotel Mediterraneo is consistent in its entirety, although diverse in the moods it provokes. While “Oasis” sinks into a reflective mood, with lazy drums and sensuous late night chords sounding like Roy Ayers, “Slow Divers” pairs more majestic bass riffs with wet claps and splashing cymbals as a wandering lead drifts up to the heavens. “Dreams of Music” is a lush, new age groove with rich musicality, and “Libra” is a heartwarming, slow motion, jazz-funk fusion packed with detail and life affirming synth playing. An Ambient House Dub of “Slow Divers” closes the EP in style.

These gloriously heartfelt tracks showcase Aura Safari’s supreme musical ability as well as their unquestionable understanding of jazz, funk and soul. Of past, present and future. Available in vinyl, via Hell Yeah.
