Lifting spirits during darker times, Freerange Records reaches us with another tasty house music record. As per usual, their selection runs a little bit deeper and more soulful than the norm, this time around with Greg Paulus’ City Movements EP and three brilliant originals which showcase his talents as a trumpet player, vocalist and producer. Perhaps better known as one half of No Regular Play, Greg has appeared on labels as diverse as Soul Clap, Let’s Play House, Ghostly International and Kompakt and now joins the London-based indie-house imprint.

City Movements is a heartwarming EP. It opens up with “Breezy Point”, where Paulus’ vocals come forward, backed by a crunchy house groove. It’s followed by “Do You Love Me?” which takes a jazzier approach with Greg’s filtering trumpet arrangements adding a warm, organic depth to the track. And it ends with “Mr. Lee’s Trophy Theme,” full of attitude and soul emanating from the layers of warm pads, wurli chords, trumpet lines and hooky vocals. Available in vinyl since December, City Movements EP will be officially released next friday.
