jaguar: madremonte

Exploring the authentic “mine” that is the musical tradition of Colombia and Caribbean, exacerbating the influence of subcultures of dance music that proliferate across Latin America and Mediterranean Europe, the Jaguar duet presents us an album with a very particular energy. Hard to classify, Madremonte rides waves of psychedelic salsa, cumbia-disco, club zouk. This debut project is an ode to street parties in the Colombian Caribbean, with melodies and guitar lines imported from Africa and filtered by electronic drums and bass that are impossible not to feel.

Paulo and Raúl are two Colombians living in Europe since the 1990s. Their paths have crossed, both have heard about each other several times, but it was only in 2017 that they finally met. They quickly established a musical relationship, finding a special language to communicate. This took them to Madremonte and to a sound that encompasses influences that range from the insular cultures of the Atlantic to the heights of the Andes. These ideas, so well picked up, are magnificently transposed into songs that work easily in festive rhythms. Composed of ten tracks, Madremonte brings stories, both sonorous and lyrical, that are unmissable. Available in vinyl, courtesy of El Palmas.
