It’s always special when you’re touched by the greats. Via Apron Records, and following up on their former Funkinevil project (with 2013's Ignorant and 2012's Night/Dusk) Steven Julien and Kyle Hall return with their first EP together in ten years. CROWN is composed by five different ‘pages’ and two remixes and reunites the London-based Julien and Detroit's own Hall, showcasing their unwavering commitment to infusing soul music into afro-influenced deepness.

From the opening track, "Page 1," featuring a mesmerizing vocal by James Massiah, the theme of ownership and resilience becomes apparent. The EP's creation, meticulously crafted through years of studio jams in Julien's sanctuary, embraces the warm, nostalgic aura reminiscent of earlier Funkinevil releases like "Dusk" and "In The Grid." CROWN unveils seven tracks that weave together pastoral melodies, funky basslines, and ethereal elements. As the EP unfolds, the B-side treats us to appearances by funk legends Dâm Funk, injecting his signature coolness into "Page 3" with a slamming kick, and Reggie B, transforming "Page 5" into a sludgy, jazzy dance extravaganza.
