Andy Baxter and his Robohands project returns to O Sótão to deliver his inventiveness and groove. Following Green and Dusk, released in 2018 and 2019 respectively, Shapes is the third album from the London-based multi-instrumentalist, touching, once again, most of the instruments played in his new project. Every turn in the trip through Shapes is surprising, fusing elements of jazz, krautrock, hip hop and ambient music - appealing to fans of Khruangbin, Yussef Dayes, Can, Coltrane and 70’s library music moods.

Via King Underground, the album has its spirit indebted to 1970’s aesthetics and to the work of artists like Piero Umiliani, David Axelrod, Brian Bennett and company. Building on these influences and incorporating modern motifs, contemporary jazz/hip hop drumming styles, Shapes is successful in creating this futuristic nostalgia, mixing vintage & modern instruments and production techniques. Robohands’ Shapes is available in vinyl.
