alfa mist & emmavie: epoch

Francisco Espregueira

The music flowing from the UK changed a lot since 2014. Countless young and talented instrumentalists, influenced by a variety of inputs crossing many genres, made their way through commercial impositions and were able to reach a wide audience all over the world. Their virtuosity, allied to the many languages they were able to communicate and the necessity for more organic sounds, granted them a space to push boundaries and innovate. Alfa Mist and Emmavie are two of the most successful artists that emerged since that time. So we go back to 2014 to listen for the first time to their collaborative album Epoch, now remastered and re-released via Sekito Records.

At the time of its debut, the EP was a milestone for the two Londoners. The first complete Alfa Mists project available on the internet had on Emmavie’s lyrics and vocals a deep reflection on her vulnerabilities and poetry. Fast-forward six years: Alfa is set to release another exciting project - the 44th Move with Richard Spaven is out this week -, following the success of last year’s Structuralism; and Emmavie comes from the critically acclaimed Honeymoon; Both artists are at the top of their game with numerous production credits, collaborations and solo projects between them. Listening to this remastered work just proves that their brilliance had already firmly established. Epoch layered production, wavy synths, warm vocals and chill vibes allow each track to seamlessly flow into the next. Available on the highest digital standards via Sekito Records.
