Back in 2017, Alfa Mist came to the front stage of London’s burgeoning jazz scene, releasing the acclaimed Antiphon album. Two years gone, a couple of amazing collaborations (with Yussef Dayes, Mansur Brown and Rocco Palladino), he returns with his new work: Structuralism. Combining live instrumentation, jazz compositions and a beat-maker’s ear for a break, Alfa Mist is capable to innovate without losing the vibe of his previous projects.
Structuralism, that features guest vocals from Jordan Rakei and Kaya Thomas-Dyke, is a dense work of art. It pulses effortlessly, carrying a sweet melancholy through 8 tracks full of jazz and hints of hip hop. It’s a beautiful place to escape. Maybe the escape from Alfa Mist himself. Surrounded by an array of talented bandmates, he confirms his geniality, as a composer and as a pianist, orchestrating another masterpiece. Structuralism is out on vinyl.
