billy lo: billy lo

Francisco Espregueira

Following the 2021 reissue of their beloved It's The Life EP, the Detroit production trio composed by Billy Love, Darryl Tiggs and Darren Abrams returns to Cosmocities Records with their first full-length album. The self-titled Billy Lo is a sonic feast, blending soulful Motown influences with the smooth energy of Paradise Garage and bumping house rhythms. Billy Love's vocals shimmer over a bed of classic piano, deep bass, and swirling synths, creating an irresistible cocktail of debonair charm and pure funk.

The A-side kicks off with the silky-smooth house anthem "Pain," while the aptly titled "Chill" lays down a heavy dose of bass and drums perfect for late-night adventures. "Let Ur Body Werk" injects a shot of Afrofunk energy, guaranteed to get bodies moving with its infectious groove and hypnotic vocals. Flip the record and prepare to be transported to a world of late-night jazz with "Sho Me Ur Love," a sultry mix of spacey basslines, sun-drenched chords, and filtered loops. "Flavors" takes things down a notch with a loungey, dreamlike vibe, before "Do Ur Thang" closes out the album on a high-energy note, a perfect anthem for dancing the night away. High-karat-gold dance-floor textures on this one, courtesy of Cosmocities Records. Available on vinyl.
