eabs meets jaubi: in search of a better tomorrow

Francisco Espregueira

In the vast expanse of musical collaborations, there are certain projects that transcend borders and bring together artists from different corners of the world. EABS meets Jaubi's new album, In Search of a Better Tomorrow, is a prime example of such a cross-cultural union that Astigmatic Records brings us. Despite being separated by almost 7,000 kilometers, the musicians from Wrocław, Poland, and Lahore, Pakistan, discovered a striking connection that fueled their musical exploration. With a shared love for locality, respect for tradition, hip-hop elements, and a passion for improvisation and spiritual jazz, the two bands embarked on a journey to bridge the gap between their respective countries.

Their collaboration was made possible through the Get Your Jazz Together program launched by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which aims to foster such cross-cultural exchanges. Gathering at Monochrom Studio in Kłodzko Valley, the artists spent a week exchanging ideas, composing, and creating music that transcends categorization. The outcome of it surprised everyone, as it unfolded in shades of darkness, reflecting the tumultuous times we live in. From pandemic restrictions to political tensions and natural disasters affecting the world but Pakistan in particular, the musicians found solace in their collective search for a better tomorrow. In Search of a Better Tomorrow showcases the convergence of Hindustani ragas, diverse interpretations of Polish jazz, and a shared brotherhood in sound. EABS meets Jaubi's collaboration breaks down barriers, taking us on a sonic journey that defies expectations and embraces the possibilities of a brighter future through the universal language of music. Available in various formats, including digital, CD, and LP, accompanied by a limited edition design by Sainer, a renowned visual artist from Poland. Courtesy of Astigmatic Records.
