felipe gordon: highly conductive rhythms ep

Francisco Espregueira

Yet again we have to share a Felipe Gordon record. It’s not really our fault, but the Colombian instrumentalist, producer and DJ keeps delivering absolute gold. 2021 has been a glorious year for him, releasing an unbelievable succession of records on labels like Shall Not Fade, Groovin, Local Talk or Fluid Funk. Highly Conductive Rhythms is his new EP, coming out the reputable Amsterdam-based Heist Recordings, showcasing the depths of his sound with classy compositions ranging from jazzy deep house to funky acid.

Defying logic, Gordon’s new record is yet another diamond piece. It’s rare to see a producer releasing so many records that can become timeless material. That timeless quality is felt on the opener, “Highly Smooth Tone” featuring the jazzy work of Cuban horn player Julio Rigal, who delivers a sublime performance with his crackling trumpet work reminiscent of St. Germain’s Tourist or Miles Davis’ Doo Bop. Going deeper, Gordon takes us through “Highly Deep And Conductive” for one of its trademark deep house journeys. On the flip, we listen to the vicious drum workout of “Highly Corrosive Acid’”, with the producer crossing to acid territories. The final track of the EP, “Highly Rhythmic Pace”, is a classic bumpy deep house track with chopped keys, bells, chants and a fair amount of grunt in the bass. A perfect finish to another eclectic EP from the Colombian.

Highly Conductive Rhythms is available on vinyl, via Heist Recordings. Below you can watch the brand new DJ Set of Gordon at Djoon, the classic french club who hosts nothing but the best in soulful vibes.
