guohan: city of the sun and moon
Francisco Espregueira
Following the mesmerizing Lost Sound Book, released via Running Circles last year, Guohan pairs up with Darker Than Wax to deliver a special record entitled City of the Sun and Moon. Originally a native of Ningbo, China, Guohan began shaping his sound in the emerging beat scene in southern China. Now based in Nottingham, the producer’s unique influences and effortless style have been polished and his new project ends up being a blend of his musical DNA and sounds from UK’s club culture. Aside from his producing work, Guohan is also a co-founder of the Running Circle imprint and co-runs Meridian Sounds, a label from southern China pushing subliminal sounds from his motherland.
City of the Sun and Moon is a small masterpiece that reflects the mountains and liminal spaces from Guohan’s dreams and memories, channeling a healing warmth inspired by people, cities, villages, and tales of his grandparents. Influenced by the musical vibrations in Nottingham, this 6-tracker brings the listener along on an up-tempo odyssey, while retaining Guohan’s signature hypnotic style. Hazy synths, percussive rhythms, and collected sound pieces. Unlimited levels of groove. Via Darker Than Wax, the amazing City of the Sun and Moon is available on vinyl.
