The Bakery, from Montreal producer Atamone and M.C., vocalist and beat maker Illa J, is a fruitful collaborative project. With an audible nod to classic hip hop production, Atamone grabs inspiration from soulful foundations, while Illa J brings his already unmistakable verbal icing, flowing from rap to r&b-esque melodies.
The rawness present in The Bakery is a sign that their creativity flowed organically. The mixture between sample based productions and live instrumentation is a smooth place, in which the lyrics and the groove live in harmony. Released last week through Inner Ocean Records, The Bakery is available on a limited vinyl edition, shipping in July.
