pau roca: your energy

Francisco Espregueira

Escola Records' third release comes from Barcelona's own Pau Roca, co-head of the label with the great Breixo Martinez and a rising name in the city's house music scene. Your Energy features the incomparable vocal talents of Laura Elle, a Barcelona-born singer-songwriter whose soulful voice forms the core of her art. Together, Roca and Elle have crafted a phenomenal soulful house track, brimming with twinkling synths, warm chords, and dusty percussion, fusing Afro-Latin rhythms with classic house music sensibilities. The release also boasts contributions from Detroit legend Alton Miller, and a collaboration between two of Barcelona's most intriguing producers, Less J and Karmasound.

Pau Roca, developing on his previous deep house productions showcased on labels like Balance Recordings, Pleasure of Love, and Island Issues, delivers a brilliant and infectious UK-funky track with "Your Energy." Alton Miller, a legendary figure in Detroit's house music that needs 0 intros, contributes with two distinct versions of the track, elevating it with eyes-closed vocal snippets, dreamy pads, and a warm, evocative bassline layered over unfussy deep house beats. Barcelona's broken beat maestro Karmasound joins forces with Less J to create the most emotive version of "Your Energy" on the release. Their remix heats things up with gorgeous keys, characteristic snagging broken beats, and a sultry bassline, rooted in the spirit of freedom inherent in broken beat music. Top nutch stuff from Escola again that is, obviously, available on vinyl.
