quinn mason, stefan ringer: nitecap ep
Francisco Espregueira
The jazz multi-instrumentalist Quinn Mason and one of O Sótão’s favorite producers Stefan Ringer present a special collaborative record entitled Nitecap EP. Released via Ringer’s FWM Entertainment imprint, this six track record is striking to say the least, blending all the musicality from two artists that grow in separate genres but coincide in spirit. The free and impulsive melodies of Mason find in Ringer’s very own deep textures the perfect counterpart, with both delivering a project that is both dancefloor oriented as it is introspective and touching.
The title track “Nitecap” introduces us to Mason’s jazz influence, standing out over an organic broken beat rhythm section. “Pulling Closer” and “Falling Notes” are both unique cuts in there own right, showcasinf a different take on rhythm, bounce and energy and how those elements interact with melody to create something unlike most music you hear in the dance music space. For the DJ’s, “The Light” is a straight forward space funk in a dance track, reminiscent of one of Ringer’s signature track, “Sexual Obsession”. “Tiny Keys” and “Cocomango” are down tempo grooves with some soul and sauce thrown in. Perfect for background vibes for a kickback or just listening around the house. Available on vinyl via FWM, Nitecap EP can’t be the last record from the mighty collaboration of Quinn Mason and Stefan Ringer.
