retromigration: dead tech

Francisco Espregueira

Dead Tech is Retromigration’s latest release, once again via Last Year At Marienbad following last year’s Kush Calls. His productions have been, for a long while, some of the best in the scene, representing the essence of dance music, but channeling emotions and touches of class. Retromigration’s approach conserves a strong presence of jazz elements, with rhythmic complexities at the core. Each song seamlessly interacts with the next, creating a vital connection with the listener. Dead Tech sees Retromigration venturing once again into clubby territory while maintaining the signature motifs that have earned him widespread acclaim.

The first two tracks, “BO” and “Lapras”, showcase playful and emotive qualities, blending powerful rhythm sections with melodic excellence. The title track, “Dead Tech”, takes a softer approach, guiding us through a tranquil space with its effortless groove and soothing layers of melody. “Half Pure” raises the tempo back, with captivating vocals and carefully crafted melodies that elevate the energy of the album. The record concludes with Da Poet's remix of “Half Pure”, adding a touch of glassy chords and a powerful bass line to create a fitting end to an immersive journey. Retromigration's presence at the forefront of dance music is well-deserved, as he continues to deliver technically sophisticated productions that resonate deeply with fans of different genres. Dead Tech is available on vinyl and showcases the range of emotions and experiences that can be felt through music, from uplifting rhythms to introspective moments. Long live Retromigration.
